Hanzi to Pinyin

Terms of Service

Effective date: July 25, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Hanzi to Pinyin Google Sheets add-on. By installing or using the add-on, you agree to these Terms.

1. The service

Hanzi to Pinyin converts Chinese text into Pinyin through custom spreadsheet functions and menu-based tools. Available formatting options may include tone marks, tone numbers, no tones, and capitalization preferences.

2. Eligibility and authority

You may use the add-on only if you are permitted to use Google Workspace and have authority to process the spreadsheet content you submit. If you use the add-on for a school or organization, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms on its behalf.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

4. Accuracy and educational use

Mandarin characters can have multiple pronunciations depending on context. Although the add-on aims to provide useful romanization, results may contain errors or may not reflect the intended reading of a name, dialectal usage, specialized term, or ambiguous phrase. You are responsible for reviewing results before relying on or publishing them.

5. Third-party and Google services

The add-on relies on Google Sheets, Google Apps Script, and a Google-hosted romanization endpoint. Your use of those services is also governed by Google’s applicable terms and policies. We do not control their availability, output, quotas, or future changes.

6. Availability and changes

We may modify, suspend, limit, or discontinue all or part of the add-on at any time. Features may become unavailable because of service changes, quotas, maintenance, or technical issues. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation.

7. Intellectual property

The add-on, its branding, interface, documentation, and original code are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. You retain any rights you have in the content of your spreadsheets.

8. No warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the add-on is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, reliability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hanzi to Pinyin and its developer will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, goodwill, or business opportunity arising from use of or inability to use the add-on.

10. Termination

You may stop using the add-on and uninstall it at any time. We may restrict access when reasonably necessary to protect the service, comply with law, or address a violation of these Terms.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the add-on or applicable requirements change. Continued use after an updated effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
